THE DAY AFTER THE DAY AFTER

It’s been about 30 hours since my last letter the morning after the election. We’ve had time to think and pray and read many letters and prophetic words. It’s been a very interesting time to say the least. I’m still feeling some grief and heart-ache, but am beginning to get a little understanding of what might be happening from God’s viewpoint. That is occurring in spite of the fact that the prophetic words and letters have been all over the board, from the bitter-sounding doom and gloom prophets to the folk that say, “It’s all good. They get their turn, then we’ll get ours again.” Others say, “Obama is God’s choice and is healing the black/white division in America.

I’ve seen and heard a little of the celebration from those who believe their time has come. I’ve watched African Americans weep with joy and say they finally feel like they belong and the American dream is really for them, too. How can you help but feel happy for them for that long-awaited moment of celebration.

My question is: “What is it going to cost us and them in the long run?”

How many more babies will be murdered in the womb, or half way out of the womb, if all restrictions to abortion are removed, which President-elect Obama supports. How long will it be before we can overturn Roe v Wade if he appoints more liberal judges to the Supreme Court, not to mention the many other high courts in the land? How much more innocent blood will be shed? How long will God hold back the severe judgment this nation deserves?

How much money can America borrow or create to give more handouts to the poor by taxing employers out of business? When will the massive bailouts and pork-barrel spending declare a day of reckoning and produce a major Wall Street collapse? (I do believe in helping the poor, but that’s our job, not the government’s job.)

Only God knows the answer to these questions. I pray for mercy and grace and for revival that will change people’s hearts, so they vote in harmony with the heart of God rather than for their own personal material advantage.

DID GOD GIVE US A KING SAUL?

I have a confession to make. The night before the election we were hosting Michele Perry (Iris missionary to Sudan) in a meeting in Elgin. During worship, I asked God if He had anything for me to give the people about the election. I opened my Bible and a verse stood out.

“Tomorrow about this time, I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him commander over My people Israel; that he may save my people from the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come to Me.” (I Samuel 9:16)

When I saw, “tomorrow at this time”, I looked at my watch. It was about 7:30 CST. I knew many election results would have come in by then. When I saw “commander”, I remembered that John McCain had been a commander in the United States military.

I believed he was going to win and hoped it was a confirmation for me. However, I had a nagging concern that since this passage is talking about Saul, it may be referring to the people’s choice, not really God’s choice. I knew that would have to be Obama. I struggled with this thought, but hoped it would be McCain, who was already a commander. But I knew that whoever won would become Commander-in-Chief of the USA. And Saul, like Obama, had never been a commander, until Samuel anointed him to be king.

I was troubled by this, but continued to believe the other words I had received previously. During the election day, before results came in, I was feeling uncomfortable and fearful. I had to put on worship to try to restore my faith. When the results started coming in, they looked OK, like it could all work out. But things began to turn and by 7:30 pm, it looked pretty bad for McCain/Palin. It just got worse as time went on.

A FEW MORE OBSERVATIONS AND EXHORTATIONS

1. Others have also referred to Obama as our King Saul. Saul won some battles, but couldn’t conquer the Philistines. He was eventually removed because of character issues and disobedience to God. He was taken out of the picture before the normal expected time.

2. One prophet said that we would have two different presidents in the next four years. Many thought it would be McCain with health issues turning the reins over to Sarah Palin. That sounded fine to many Christians. But since it would be Obama, instead of McCain, we could have Joe Biden as president. I don’t endorse this word, but I’m just sharing what I’ve heard.

3. God sees a bigger picture than we do. We like to figure things out and predict the future, but God always has surprises. We have received many words that God has heard every cry and prayer for mercy. He will apply them to the situation in a different way than we expected. We are to rejoice that because of our efforts, others were persuaded to vote for righteousness and they will be blessed because of it. All who cried out for God’s Kingdom to be established will be rewarded and protected from some of the trouble coming on the land because of our nation’s choice.

4. The time spent in fasting and prayer and solemn assemblies has had a powerful affect on our own spiritual growth and prepared us for more effective warfare in the future. It also deepened our relationship with God and opened doors of favor to us.

5. There have been some prophetic words saying that Obama will turn to God and become a great Christian leader. We should certainly pray for this. We should pray that he has a powerful encounter with God that will change him forever and give him the courage to do what is right in the eyes of God, no matter what the cost.

6. God can do many miraculous things in a big hurry and change the man and the nation. We know of one powerful possibility that could spark this change.

7. Someone wrote about the fact that it will be so easy for people to accept the anti-Christ when he comes. Just think of all the things Barak Obama had going against him which the people ignored because they wanted someone on their side. Here’s a partial list:

A. OBAMA HAS NEVER PROVEN HE IS ELIGIBLE TO BE PRESIDENT

An Ohio attorney, a Democrat, is suing for Obama to produce his birth certificate, believing he does not qualify as a natural-born citizen. He is ready to take it to the Supreme Court, which could take a couple of years. If he wins the case, Obama would have to step down in the middle of his term.

B. OBAMA IS HIDING ALL RECORDS OF HIS UNIVERSITY DAYS AT COLOMBIA AND HARVARD.

There appears to be evidence that he got a lot of money for tuition from Muslims in the Middle East, who saw him as having potential to infiltrate the American political system.

C. OBAMA HAS AVOIDED TOWN HALL MEETINGS AND PRESS CONFERENCES

He tried to stay scripted at all times and not take a chance on people asking him the wrong questions. Joe, the plumber, caught him off-guard in a rare moment and he revealed his socialistic training.

D. OBAMA’S ASSOCIATIONS WOULD DISQUALIFY ANYONE ELSE

The list of radical friends would disqualify him from working for the government. He couldn’t clear security after hanging out with them for so long.

E. OBAMA’S FAR-LEFT LIBERAL VIEWS SHOULD KEEP MODERATES FROM VOTING FOR HIM.

His votes on live-born failed abortions are so radical, people can’t believe he actually voted that way. They just give him a pass on it.

AND THERE’S LOTS MORE IF YOU’VE BEEN KEEPING UP WITH THE ELECTION

I’m not trying to drag Obama now through the dirt. I’m just making a point. Americans, who should vote with more intelligence than any other nation, vote for their own temporal self-interest, without regard to their children and grand-children, or even their own future. That includes way too many Christians. They want a human savior or king to fight their battles for them. They think Obama will pay their mortgage payments and take more money from the rich and give it to them. He’s their hero and can do no wrong. If he has problems, they will blame it all on the Bush administration.

IN CONCLUSION

I’m running out of time, but just want to say that God wants to use us again to bring about His victory. I don’t agree that America is doomed. We have a valley to pass through and we must stay close to our true Shepherd. We must know Jesus more intimately than ever before. We must repent of our selfish ways and our lukewarm hearts.

We must move the hand of God to bring revival to the land and turn people’s hearts to God so they can experience His love and grace. The by-product will be that they will vote right in the next elections.

I need to go spend time with the family. We fly to Korea tomorrow. Don’t forget to pray for us. We love you all!
